Environment Policy – Statement of intent

We recognise the need to operate our business in a manner which reflects good environmental management. This integral part of our management system includes activities, products and services provided by organisations working on behalf of the company. It is committed to setting high environmental standards and implementing controls through the company’s management system, which aims to continually improve environmental performance by setting objectives and providing all necessary resources to address the key areas of risk.  As a business we acknowledge and accept there is a climate emergency, and we are committed to assessing the risks and opportunities of climate impacts on our business strategy, disclosing them and taking actions to minimise them.  It is our priority to encourage our customers, suppliers and all business associates to do the same. Not only is this sound commercial sense for all but a matter of delivering on our duty of care towards future generations.

Management, supervisory and other personnel are appointed with overall responsibility for environmental management and for the implementation of this policy.  They are expected to always set a good example.  The responsibility for the Environment lies with everyone  – it cannot be delegated.  Only by constant care and vigilance on the part of every employee can we ensure good environmental management.

We aim for a continuing policy of good environmental management.  To control and maintain environmental performance we intend to:

Ensure compliance with this environmental policy and with relevant environmental legislation and, where  reasonably practicable, will strive to achieve standards of environmental performance above legal minimum.

Adopt all essential measures to prevent pollution and to minimise the environmental impacts associated   with its activities, products and services, and to develop a culture of continual environmental improvement.  If considered necessary we may develop specific environmental procedures to ensure they are considered at operational level.

We may also develop environmental performance evaluation procedures the effect of which would be periodically reviewed.  We will incorporate environmental factors into any future business decisions.

We will conserve energy wherever possible, seeking to reduce our usage of fossil fuels, and to optimise environmental opportunities by active resource management (materials, fuel and energy)

We will utilise sustainable materials and products which can be reused or recycled. We will aim to develop a specific recycling programme also considering any local or national requirements.  Where necessary it would ensure all wastes particularly hazardous ones are transported and disposed of in an acceptable environmentally manner and in accordance with any legal requirements.

We communicate this policy to all personnel and it is included in our Induction procedures.  It is also freely available to customers, suppliers and the general public.

We provide any necessary training and support to our employees to ensure they can fulfil the requirements of this policy.

We also encourage customers, suppliers and contractors to develop sustainable management practices.

Every employee has a legal responsibility to care for the environment and to ensure  their actions do not adversely affect the environment. The involvement of all is essential to the protection of our environment.
